Rescue – High Blakey Moor – 9th July; 12:56 – 37/2023
Called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to reports of a male member of a walking party on the Coast to Coast long distance path who had become incapacitated with abdominal pains. The location was on the old railway line on High Blakey Moor above Farndale.
After assessment by team members and the administration of pain relief he was assisted onto one of our stretchers, lifted into one of our vehicles and driven back to the road head where treatment continued until an ambulance crew arrived to transport him definitive medical care.
We had seventeen team members deployed for four hours. We appreciate the assistance of a local gamekeeper who helped with access to the moor, the landlord of the Lion Inn, Blakey who called the incident in and grateful that the weather was considerably kinder than yesterday’s thunderstorms otherwise it would have been a very uncomfortable wait for the gentleman and his wife and a long wet carry out for the team to the road.
