PhoneFind – Hull area – 19th November; 22:32 – 73/2022
The team responded to a request from Yorkshire Ambulance Service to help locate a vulnerable patient which the deployed ambulance crew were unable to locate. It was believed the patient had moved away from where they had first called 999 and there was concern for their welfare. The request was for us to use the Mountain Rescue England and Wales SARCALL, PhoneFind utility to help the crew find them.
A PhoneFind Message was sent by one of our duty Incident Controllers after which we agreed to monitor the SARCALL application for a reply. We were stood down at 23:13 after the Ambulance Service advised us that the patient had been found.
*****PhoneFind works by sending a text to the person’s phone with a message to say it is from Mountain Rescue and to click a link in the text to let us know where they are. As long as the recipient has a smart phone with location services enabled then the reply automatically contains the GPS coordinates of the mobile phone. Hull is not in our area but we are happy to use the technology to help our local Ambulance Service and community.*****
