Rescue – Appleton Le Moors – 1st August 11:49 (65/2021)
Called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service for our assistance over reports of a lady having fallen from a horse in the vicinity of Appleton Le Moors sustaining a head injury. The Ambulance Service were unable to obtain an exact location of the patient. The team deployed and quickly found the lady. After initial assessment and treatment and due to the mechanism of injury we requested the severity of the call be escalated within the Ambulance Service and remained with the patient until we were able to hand over to an ambulance crew for transport to definitive medical care. We had seventeen team members either deployed or on standby for two hours.
NB: With regard to initial difficulty in locating the patient it materialised that ‘location services’ on the mobile phone were disabled. We would advise that such services be enabled if you are venturing into the countryside, while such tools should not replace a physical map and compass most smartphone applications, which can determine and report your location, need these services enabled to function correctly.
